Tenure Track Faculty Opening in Transportation Systems

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY (CEE) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in transportation systems engineering. Candidates must have earned a PhD (or foreign degree equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or closely related field. Prior research and teaching experience is a plus. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a high-quality funded research program that complements the existing areas of excellence within the Department and the School of Engineering and to actively contribute to the undergraduate and graduate teaching missions of CEE, and to engage in department, institute and professional service activities.

Of particular interests are the areas of transit modeling, demand modeling, transportation economics, logistics, intelligent transportation systems, network modeling, traffic control and simulation, and traffic safety. Outstanding candidates with expertise in other areas will also be considered. The ideal candidate will complement the existing strengths of the transportation program and ongoing research of the transportation faculty.

Consistent with the Rensselaer Plan, the School of Engineering Performance Plan, and the Department’s Strategic Plan, an emphasis on energy and the environment, and information technology, is highly desired.

Successful candidates may find it useful to collaborate with other researchers through various centers on campus including the newly funded Volvo Center of Excellence on Sustainable Urban Freight Systems, the Center for Infrastructure, Transportation, and the Environment (http://transp.rpi.edu/~CITE/index.shtml), the Center for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (www.nees.rpi.edu/), the Scientific Computation Research Center (www.scorec.rpi.edu/), the Lighting Research Center (www.lrc.rpi.edu), among others Rensselaer and School of Engineering centers (www.rpi.edu/research/research_centers.html).
